The trek around Mount Manaslu (8163m), which is the eighth-highest mountain in the world, will take you 17 days to walk up the Budhi Gandaki River Valley in a north direction through sub-tropical forests/lands, over very remote suspension bridges built above rivers, continuously ascending through pine forests to the high alpine area of greater than 4000m. Each of the villages you will pass along this trekking, e.g., Jagat, Namrung, Samagaon, and Samdo, was settled by people from Tibet. The cultural aspects from your journey, created by the monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags, provide as much commitment to this area as does the natural beauty of the area.

Larkya La Pass (5,106m), located at the end of this trek, is one of the longest and most spectacular high passes in the entire Himalayan Range of Nepal. On a clear morning, the scenic vistas of Manaslu, Larke Peak, and Rand Cheo Himal from the top of the Larkya La Pass are truly unbelievable. You will descend to Bimthang and then continue out through the Annapurna Conservation Area all the way to the lowlands, where you will finally feel that you have truly encircled an entire mountain.

Essential Information

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permits 2026 Update

The Manaslu region is a restricted trekking area, which means obtaining permits is more complex than a standard Nepali trek — and critically, you cannot apply for the main permit yourself. It must be processed through a registered trekking agency like Higher Limits Trek & Expedition. Three permits are required:

1. Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP)

This is the primary permit and the most important. It is required from Jagat (the first checkpoint at 1,340m) all the way through the restricted zone. The cost depends on the season:

  • Autumn (September–November): USD 100 per person for the first 7 days, then USD 15 per additional day
  • All other seasons (December–August): USD 75 per person for the first 7 days, then USD 10 per additional day

Important: Before March 2026, you had to travel in pairs in Restricted Areas, but now the requirements have been removed. Now you can travel solo but with a licensed guide. For more information, you can check the Restricted Area Permit Update.

2. Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)

The Manaslu Conservation Area Permit is required for entering the Manaslu Conservation Area protected zone. Fixed cost year-round: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) per person.

3. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit is required as the trail exits the Manaslu region near Dharapani and enters the Annapurna Conservation Area. Fixed cost: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) per person.

All three permits are included in the Higher Limits Trek package price and arranged entirely by our team. You simply provide a passport scan, Nepal visa copy, and travel insurance details — we handle everything with the Nepal Department of Immigration.

Best Time for Manaslu Comfort Circuit Trek – 17 Days

The Manaslu region has two perfect trekking seasons. Both seasons offer spectacular conditions and views; you can choose the season according to what you want to see and experience.

Manaslu Comfort Circuit Trek in Spring – (March to May) – clear skies, Rhododendrons in bloom

Spring is one of the best and most popular times on the Manaslu Circuit. The forests are full of rhododendrons, the skies are stable and clear, and the mountain views are exceptional. At lower elevations, days are warm and cold above 4,000m. During March, there are chances of snow on the pass.

Manaslu Comfort Circuit Trek in Autumn – (September to November) – Best visibility

Autumn is considered the best time for trekking in Nepal. After the monsoon season, the atmosphere is clean and free of dust, resulting in a clear line of sight to the mountains. Typically, the sky is clear during this time, allowing for uninterrupted panoramic views of the beautiful Himalayas, including Manaslu. The weather is usually stable, which helps ensure a safe and comfortable trekking experience.

Manaslu Comfort Circuit Trek in Winter – (December to February) – Possible for experienced trekkers

The Manaslu trek in Winter is possible for experienced trekkers, but Larkya La Pass can be heavily snow-covered.

Manaslu Comfort Circuit Trek in Monsoon– (June to August) – Not Recommended

During the Monsoon season, the trails are slippery, leeches are prevalent, and clouds cover the mountains. So, the monsoon season is not recommended.
