The trek around Mount Manaslu (8163m), which is the eighth-highest mountain in the world, will take you 17 days to walk up the Budhi Gandaki River Valley in a north direction through sub-tropical forests/lands, over very remote suspension bridges built above rivers, continuously ascending through pine forests to the high alpine area of greater than 4000m. Each of the villages you will pass along this trekking, e.g., Jagat, Namrung, Samagaon, and Samdo, was settled by people from Tibet. The cultural aspects from your journey, created by the monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags, provide as much commitment to this area as does the natural beauty of the area.

Larkya La Pass (5,106m), located at the end of this trek, is one of the longest and most spectacular high passes in the entire Himalayan Range of Nepal. On a clear morning, the scenic vistas of Manaslu, Larke Peak, and Rand Cheo Himal from the top of the Larkya La Pass are truly unbelievable. You will descend to Bhimtang and then continue out through the Annapurna Conservation Area all the way to the lowlands, where you will finally feel that you have truly encircled an entire mountain.

Discover the Uncrowded Comfort Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal

Less Crowded and Spectacular Trail: Manaslu Circuit is a restricted area in Nepal. So, the trail is less crowded compared to other treks. You will walk in the genuine Himalayan wilderness and will experience the remote area of Nepal.

Manaslu Circuit Restricted Area: While Annapurna and Everest Base Camp draw hundreds of trekkers daily in other hand, Manaslu Circuit is protected by its restricted area permits. So, it offers the experience of an untouched route and typical Tibetan culture.

Close-up view of Mount Manaslu (8,163m) – the world’s 8th highest mountain: You will trek deep into the Manaslu Region, where you can experience the close-up view of Mount Manaslu, along with surrounding peaks, glaciers, and high valleys.

Larkya La Pass (5,106m), Nepal’s longest high pass: You will pass Larkya La Pass (5,106m), the longest high pass in Nepal. The highlight of the Manaslu Circuit, Larkya La Pass, offers stunning views of Manaslu, Cheo Himal, and the surrounding glacial giants. It is a challenging, breathtaking, and deeply memorable part of your trekking journey.

Experience Tibetan Buddhist Culture: The villages in the Manaslu Circuit Region, like Samdo, Samagaun, Jagat, and Namrung, are home to communities with centuries of Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Here, you will experience ancient monasteries, prayer flags, and mani walls that strongly reflect the Tibetan Buddhist Culture.

Explore Monasteries along the Trail: The Manaslu Circuit passes some of the ancient Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Nepal, Pung Gyen Gompa, Sama Gompa, and the monasteries at Lho and Namrung. Each one of them reflects centuries of Himalayan Buddhist tradition, with ancient murals, prayer halls, and resident monks. You can read our guide to the Monasteries in the Manaslu Region for more details.

Comfort Acclimatization in Samagaun: Our Comfort Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary includes a proper acclimatization day in Samagaun (3,530m), which allows your body to adjust naturally to altitude and helps to reduce the risk of high altitude. You can also explore the surrounding Birendra Lake and enjoy the view of Manaslu Base Camp at your own pace.

Birendra Lake and Manaslu Base Camp: From Samagaon, we can take a short hike to Birendra Lake, which sits beneath the massive south face of Manaslu offer scene of turquoise water, ice, and sky near Manaslu Base Camp.

Landscape Diversity: You will experience the landscape diversity as the trek begins in warm, green river valleys and will gradually change into cold, mountain Tibetan-style landscapes.

No Flights Needed: Unlike the Everest region, the Manaslu Circuit Comfort Trek doesn’t need a plane. The starting point (Maccha Khola) can be reached by road. Because there are no flights, the trekking cost is low and affordable.

Suitable for Fit Trekkers: If you are in good physical condition and motivated, our comfort itinerary with proper acclimatization days will get you safely over Larkya La Pass.

Acclimatization Day at Samagaun and Samdo – Your Body Needs This

On Day 9, you will spend an acclimatization day at Samagaun (3,530m). Today you will stop trekking and take a rest day. Your body needs this break because you will be gaining altitude, and your body needs to adjust to high altitude. It helps to prevent altitude sickness. During this rest day, you can explore the amazing Birendra Lake, Manaslu Base Camp, or nearby.

On Day 11, you will have another acclimatization day at Samdo (3,875m). This additional rest day is important before ascending to higher altitudes. You can take a short hike to nearby viewpoints, explore the surrounding landscapes, and enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas while giving your body more time to adjust to the thinner air.

This gradual acclimatization process plays a vital role in ensuring a safer, more comfortable, and enjoyable trekking experience.

3Day

Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola by Jeep

Early morning after breakfast drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (870m.) takes about eight/nine hours. You drive along the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway for the first part of the day; after Malekhu you turn towards the hill bazaar of Dhading Bensi. After Dhading bensi the road is still good up to Salyantar but quite narrow. After Salyantar the road is bumpy and dusty but the beautiful scenery and villages will make your day memorable.

You will reach your destination Machha Khola late in the afternoon. There is a small market with a few shops, lodges and donkeys that are kept there. Stay your first night in mountain in Machha Khola.

4Day

Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat

You cross the Machha Khola [Fish Stream] and head upstream to the tiny village of Khorla Bensi and the hot springs at Tatopani. The valley sides are steep until they are impassable, and the route then switches to the left bank by way of a suspension bridge. The trail is quite exposed and challenging in places. After a short section of forest path, you reach the single teahouse at Doban. Above Doban, the Budi Gandaki descends on an impressive series of rapids. Beyond this steep section, the river is much more placid, meandering across a broad gravel bed. At Lauri, you cross the river on a suspension bridge, and then climb on a high path to the fields of Jagat, where you stop for another night at mountain.

5Day

Trek from Jagat to Deng

The early part of the trek moves gently uphill and then through a flat level path. You cross a suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki before you enter Philim, where we will have lunch. Philim is a big village mainly inhabited by the Gurungs. Small monasteries, chortens, and prayer flags fluttering in the sky, graves, and typical houses will be seen around here. From Philim, you trek over a flat, leveled path mostly through a forest of pine, rhododendron, and others. While walking, you cross a few bridges and can see villages at a far distance. A few houses are seen at Deng. From here, you can enjoy a pretty waterfall lying at some distance. Deng is famous for its potatoes, buck wheat, barley, wheat, cabbage, spinach, as people are mostly involved in agriculture in this area.

6Day

Trek from Deng to Namrung

The trek from Deng to Namrung takes about five hours. In the beginning, you trek almost a flat level path, and then the trail moves uphill all the way to Namrung through the forest. From here, you can enjoy the spectacular views of Mt. Manaslu, rock hills, a green valley, and ridges. Namrung is a Buddhist village where there are monasteries, a water turbine, hydroelectricity power house, mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags can be seen fluttering in the sky. The typical houses remind you of Tibetan architecture. Stay overnight in Namrung.

7Day

Trek from Namrung to Shyala

After an early breakfast, we start our trek from Namrung to Shyala. We pass through beautiful forests and pass the villages of Lihi, Sho, and Lho. Today we will stop at Lho for lunch, from where we can see an amazing view of Mt. Manaslu and Buddhism school of the monastery. As we climb higher, we get to see beautiful mountain views as we pass Lho; the amazing views of Manaslu and nearby peaks are shown. Shyala is a quiet village surrounded by beautiful peaks, making it a perfect place to rest and acclimatize before heading to Samagaun.

8Day

Trek from Shyala to Samagaun after exploring Pung Gyen Gompa

Today, the first hour of the day is to hike up to Pung Gyen Gompa from Shyala, where we can see beautiful views of Manaslu and the glacier. After exploring the peaceful monastery and enjoying the panoramic scenery, you hike back down to Shyala and rejoin the main trail to Samagaun. Leaving the village, you follow the right bank of the river, with views of Peak 29 ahead. As you continue on the main trail, you soon reach the fields of Sama Gaun. You stop at Sama Gaun, 20 minutes beyond the village, or Samdo, near the Tibetan border. Stay overnight at the lodge in Samagaun.

9Day

Acclimatization day in Samagaun explore Birendra Lake or Manaslu Base Camp

This is a day for rest at Samagaun to give you some acclimatization before crossing the Larke Pass. Surrounded by mountains in a peaceful forest, you take a breather to acclimatize and relax. You can even hike to Birendra Lake (Kunda) which is an ice lake nearby the Manaslu Base Camp. Stay another night at Samagaun.

10Day

Trek from Samagaun to Samdo

You trek gently uphill all the way to Samdo through a desert path and a windy valley. The Tibetan border is just four kilometers away from Samdo. But visitors are not allowed to pass the border. There is a Tibetan refugee village at Samdo. This is an excellent viewpoint for Mt.Manaslu, Samdo (Pang phuchuli), Nagdi chuli, Simnang Himal, Manaslu glacier, Manaslu ice fall, and several other majestic peaks. Stay overnight at the lodge in Samdo.

11Day

Acclimatization day in Samdo explore Tibetan Border

Today is the another acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the thin air before the high pass (Larkya La Pass). But resting doesn't mean lying around all day. You hike up toward Rui La, the old trading pass on the Nepal–Tibetan border, climbing close to 5,000 m before heading back down to sleep in Samdo. It's a long but rewarding walk, with wide-open views of the valleys and snow peaks stretching into Tibet. Climbing high and sleeping low here is the best way to prepare your body for crossing the Larkya La. Back in Samdo, you rest, eat well, and stay warm for the night.

12Day

Trek from Samdo to Dharmashala (Larke La Phedi)

The trail is rocky and zigzags all the way to your destination. Before you reach Larke La Phedi, there is a market called Larkya Bazaar (market) where seasonal fairs are held for the local folks. People bring goods from Tibet to sell them here. You will also find a Dharamsala at Larke La Phedi. Stay overnight at the lodge in Larkya La Phedi (Dharmasala).

13Day

Trek from Dharmashala to Bhimtang via Larke Pass (5,106m)

Early in the morning, you begin to trek a steep ascent path to Larke La through a rocky and windy path. Today you carry a packed lunch. From the top, you can enjoy the views of Larke Peak, sunrise, Mt.Manaslu, Ratna Chuli, Cheo Himal, and many other snowcapped mountains and peaks. Crossing this pass, you hike to a steep downhill path through rock and ice. On the way, you will encounter many icy lakes. Bhimtang is a broad and level ablation valley with a number of Mani walls and deserted houses. Stay overnight at the lodge in Bhimtang.

14Day

Trek from Bhimtang to Goa

Trek from Bhimtang to Goa (2515m.) takes about four hours. Crossing this high pasture, you descend the valley of the Burdin Khola to the area of the Base Camp for the West side of Manaslu. From a ridge at 4150 meters, you have excellent views of Manaslu to the South East and Annapurna II to the South West. Beyond a bridge over the headwaters of the Dudh Khola, you descend into a rhododendron forest and follow a trail through a narrow valley until you reach the highest cultivated land in this valley at Karche, 2785 meters. Walking down, you cross a stream to reach Goa. There is an apple orchard and it is quite famous for local wine.

15Day

Trek from Goa to Tal Village

Today is an easy day, mostly downhill along the river. You follow the river down through a small village called Tilije, then reach Dharapani, where the Manaslu trail joins the busier Annapurna route. Instead of stopping here, you walk a bit further along the river to Tal, a pretty village sitting next to the water with waterfalls nearby. After all the high, cold days near the pass, it feels good to be back among green forests and warmer air. Tal Village is a peaceful place to spend the night, and it also makes the drive back to Kathmandu the next day shorter and easier, so you reach Kathmandu in good time.

16Day

Jeep drive from Tal Village to Kathmandu

Today is your last day of the trip. After breakfast, you get in a jeep and start the drive back to Kathmandu. The road follows the river through green hills and little villages, and the mountains slowly fade away behind you. It's a long drive, but an easy and pretty way to finish the journey. When you arrive in Kathmandu, you'll be dropped off at your hotel, with the rest of the day free to rest and relax.

17Day

Transfer to the airport for your flight to home

As we have successfully completed the trip, it is time to return home or embark on your next journey. Even you can join our next adventures trips in the Himalayas if you wish too. Essential Information

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permits Update 2026

The Manaslu region is a restricted trekking area, which means obtaining permits is more complex than a standard Nepali trek — and critically, you cannot apply for the main permit yourself. It must be processed through a registered trekking agency like Higher Limits Trek & Expedition. Three permits are required:

1. Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP)

This is the primary permit and the most important. It is required from Jagat (the first checkpoint at 1,340m) all the way through the restricted zone. The cost depends on the season:

  • Autumn (September–November): USD 100 per person for the first 7 days, then USD 15 per additional day
  • All other seasons (December–August): USD 75 per person for the first 7 days, then USD 10 per additional day

Important: Before March 2026, you had to travel in pairs in Restricted Areas, but now the requirements have been removed. Now you can travel solo but with a licensed guide. For more information, you can check the Restricted Area Permit Update.

2. Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)

The Manaslu Conservation Area Permit is required for entering the Manaslu Conservation Area protected zone. Fixed cost year-round: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) per person.

3. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit is required as the trail exits the Manaslu region near Dharapani and enters the Annapurna Conservation Area. Fixed cost: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) per person.

4. Chumnubri Rural Municipality Permit

Chumnubri Rural Municipality Permit is a local government permit issued by the Chumnubri Rural Municipality. The collected fee is used for local trail maintenance, suspension bridge repairs, and check post staffing of most of the upper Manaslu villages – including Lho, Sama Gaun, and Samdo. Cost: NPR 1,000 per person (approx. USD 8)

All four permits are included in the Higher Limits Trek package price and arranged entirely by our team. You provide a passport scan, Nepal visa copy, and travel insurance details — we handle everything with the Nepal Department of Immigration.

The process required to obtain a permit to enter the Manaslu region is more complicated than in the normal trekking permit system found elsewhere in Nepal, since there are various types of permits to enter the restricted area, multiple checkpoints along the trek, and a new Chumnubri Municipal Permit required for those travelling after 2026. We handle all necessary permits for you as part of the package. For additional information about how to obtain each of the permits listed above, including the associated fees, and the effects of the new 2026 regulations on your trek, refer to our complete guide to the Manaslu region permits.

If you would like to study Nepal's trekking permit system in more detail, including TIMS cards, conservation area permits, and restricted area rules, then you can check our full guide on Trekking Permits in Nepal.

Best Time for Comfort Manaslu Circuit Trek – 17 Days

The Manaslu region has two perfect trekking seasons. Both seasons offer spectacular conditions and views; you can choose the season according to what you want to see and experience.

Comfort Manaslu Circuit Trek in Spring – (March to May) – clear skies, Rhododendrons in bloom

Spring is one of the best and most popular times on the Manaslu Circuit. The forests are full of rhododendrons, the skies are stable and clear, and the mountain views are exceptional. At lower elevations, days are warm and cold above 4,000m. During March, there are chances of snow on the pass.

Comfort Manaslu Circuit Trek in Autumn – (September to November) – Best visibility

Autumn is considered the best time for trekking in Nepal. After the monsoon season, the atmosphere is clean and free of dust, resulting in a clear line of sight to the mountains. Typically, the sky is clear during this time, allowing for uninterrupted panoramic views of the beautiful Himalayas, including Manaslu. The weather is usually stable, which helps ensure a safe and comfortable trekking experience.

Comfort Manaslu Circuit Trek in Winter – (December to February) – Possible for experienced trekkers

The Manaslu trek in Winter is possible for experienced trekkers, but Larkya La Pass can be heavily snow-covered.

Comfort Manaslu Circuit Trek in Monsoon– (June to August) – Not Recommended

During the Monsoon season, the trails are slippery, leeches are prevalent, and clouds cover the mountains. So, the monsoon season is not recommended.

Each season offers something different on the trail. For more information, you can explore our complete guide to the best time to trek the Manaslu region.
