The Indigenous Peoples Trail Trek is an unforgettable combine cultural, Himalayan views and beautiful landscapes. The first of its kind in Nepal, the IP Trail offers unique, living experience to one of the most culturally diverse areas of Nepal combined with the stunning natural landscape. Sailung Park in the North and the golden Sun Koshi River graceful along the south mark the start/end point respectively of the Indigenous Peoples Trail which offers a unique and natural combination of ethnic cultural diversity joined with breathtaking Himalayan and mid-Hill panoramas.

Lying totally on the Mahabharat range, the IP Trail offers mostly local Home-stay accommodation experiences offering trekkers a rare chance to experience the culture and lifestyle of six different Nepali ethnic groups. This top-down, gentle trek suits all types of trekkers particularly visitors wishing to avoid extreme high altitudes. The week long trail takes visitors from a starting elevation of 3146m at Sailung to 533m at by the Sunkoshi River.

The trail passes through the stunning folded Mahabharat range and rolling terraced farmlands. The virgin forests at Sailung, Rajveer, Augleshwori, Galba and Khandadevi are the unique habitat for varieties of wildlife including pheasant, deer and Languor monkey, as well as a seasonal spring blaze of blooming rhododendron.

1Day

Arrival at Kathmandu Airport & transfer to Hotel

Flying into Kathmandu on a crystal clear day is itself a truly breathtaking experience. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, & begin a whole sequence of memorable experiences that stay with you for a real long time. Upon arrival, a representative and driver from our office will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. Our team will assist you with check-in process and provide an orientation about your daily activities. This will be your first overnight stay in the city of temples.

2Day

Full -day Sightseeing Tour in Kathmandu Valley and making permit

Kathmandu, is the historical heart of Nepal, has been a popular destination for tourists ever since the country opened its borders to outside world. The city presents a wonderful combination of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two prime neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significances.

We will arrange a professional tour guide for you and a private tourist vehicle with a driver to explore between monuments. The tour guide will take you to UNESCO World Heritage Sites such Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath Stupa, the historical and cultural sites you’ll visit today. Offering panoramic views of the valley.

After completion of your day tour, you will be having meeting with your trek guide at our office/hotel. He will brief you about the Trek and all the essentials. The Thamel has many trekking gear shops, where you can buy missing gear in the late evening and get ready for the driving Dhunge.

3Day

Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunge and trek to Sailung

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunge,  passing through beautiful countryside and traditional villages. From Dhunge, start a gradual uphill trek toward Thulo Sailung, a place of great cultural and religious significance. Along the trail, enjoy sweeping views of rolling hills and stunning Himalayan panoramas. As the day comes to an end, witness a magical sunset over Mount Gaurishanker (7,134 m), one of the most sacred peaks in the region—an unforgettable highlight of the day. You will then head to the nearby settlement of Kholakharka for a warm welcome and an overnight stay at a community lodge, experiencing local hospitality in a peaceful mountain setting.

4Day

Trek From Sailung to Rajveer to Khola Kharkha

Begin the day by enjoying a spectacular sunrise and sweeping Himalayan views from Thulo Sailung. Explore the sacred sites of Sano Sailung, including holy caves, Tiger Rocks, and ancient chortens that hold deep spiritual importance. Thulo Sailung is revered by the Tamang community as the abode of their territorial deity, Sailung Phoi Sibda Karpo—the White Male Lord of the Earth. After lunch, continue the trek through peaceful forests to visit the serene Rajveer Gomba. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Sherpa cultural program before settling in for an overnight stay at Kholakharkha.

5Day

Trek from Khola Kharka to Rajveer to Surkey

During the descent to Surkey Village through the Sailung forest, you will see a wide diversity of native tree, shrub and bird species down towards surkey. Tourists are welcome at Rajveer monastery and to receive a blessing from the Lamas. Enjoy a relaxing foot bath at the cooling waterfall near Surkey. Your Homestay overnight at Surkey Village is a Newari cultural experience.

6Day

Trek form surkey to Tinghare to Doramba

Experience the Thami cultural programme at Tinghare Village before crossing into the Doramba valley via the rhododendron-filled forest around to the rolling terraced fields of Doramba. Enjoy Tamang Homestay culture and the very colourful evening Tamang traditional cultural programme at Doramba.

7Day

Trek from Doramba to Galba to Khandadevi

Trek towards Augleshwori hill with dramatic views of the Himalaya and the rolling Mahabharat hills below. Enjoy cold drink, snacks and lunch at Galba bazaar before walking through the terraced scenery and pine forest to the sacred Khandadevi temple. Visit the temple and enjoy a spectacular sunset view and sight of the Sun Koshi River 1500 metres below. Relax with traditional Tamang Homestay hospitality this evening.

8Day

Trek from Khandadevi to Hiledevi/Dongme

Following the pre-dawn and sunrise photographic experiences trek towards Hiledevi following a long ridge of thick pine forest, home a wide diversity of bird and other wildlife species. Experience the neat, traditional houses along the trial before reaching the house of the ancient Yolmo people in Dongme. Enjoy stunning sunset views from nearby Sunapati and visit Buddhist Chortens before returning to the monastery at Dongme to spend the night and to enjoy the Yolmo cultural programme.

9Day

Trek from Hiledevi to Sunapati to Lubughat

Enjoy an equally eye-catching sunrise from Sunapati before the final descent to the village of Lubughat on the Sunkoshi River, famous for adventure rafting. Learn traditional river fishing with the Majhi community and relax on the sandy beach beside the river. In the evening you will enjoy a fish BBQ or pig roast (or both if you’re really hungry), while learning about Majhi culture during a proudly-performed song and dance.

10Day

Trek From Lubughat to Nepalthowk and drive Dhulikhel to Kathmandu

Cross the River by Majhi Raft and suspension bridge to Nepalthowk to catch the local bus or micro-bus for the short two-hour drive to Dhulikhel and continue drive back to Kathmandu rest, shower, shopping etc and evening we will take you to reputed Nepali kitchen for a delicious local Nepali cuisine. As you enjoy your meal, you will be entertained with a thrilling cultural dance performed by the local belles of Kathmandu. You will enjoy your last evening in Kathmandu.

11Day

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Home

Our escort team will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight home. For those who wish to extend their stay in Nepal, a variety of optional activities can be arranged, including a jungle safari with a game drive in one of the national parks, adventurous white-water rafting, Tibet overland tours, or mountain biking experiences. Simply let us know your interests and budget, and we will be happy to tailor an extension program to suit your needs.

We suggest you to hire a porter to carry your bag pack while on the trek, trekking with a light day pack is much easier and you enjoy your trekking holidays to the fullest. A trekking porter carries about 20-25Kg (about 10-12Kg from each of you) and we suggest you to hire a one porter for two trekkers.

Essential Information

Meals / Food:

Every day’s Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner is included in the package during the trek. This will be a dish of Nepali, Indian or Continental source cooked by the lodging you stay at.

Accommodations/Hotels:

The whole trekking is tea house trekking which means we will stay at simple Tea House Lodge accommodation during the trek which will be wood and stone houses with outside toilet and bathroom mostly.

Electricity:

Almost everywhere available electricity on this trekking routes but still please be prepare with 2pin plug, power bank, spare batteries and head lamp etc.

Health and Experience Required:

This trekking involves five to seven hours walking per day. However, it is some part of this trek at very high altitude, which will take a physical toll. There are no special physical or training requirements, but high altitude experience & walking is a benefit.
