Manaslu Circuit Trek - 14 Days

The 14 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the perfect choices for trekkers who are looking for a physically challenging adventure in the Himalaya. The trek begins at Machha Khola in Gorkha district and ends at Besisahar in the Annapurna Region.

The Manaslu Circuit Trekking trail follows the Budhi Gandaki (river) upstream to the Tibetan-Buddhist valley (Samdo, Samagaun), crosses the Larkya La Pass at 5,106m, and descends through rhododendron (blooms in March-May) and pine forests into the Marshyangdi valley.

For trekkers looking for a trek with fewer crowds, a wilder trail, and a different cultural experience, the 14 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek 2026 is a perfect choice. Even in the peak season, the trails are quieter than compared to the Everest and Annapurna Trekking Region.

The 14 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek is a journey around Mount Manaslu (8,163m), the eighth-highest mountain in the world, through a restricted area of north-central Nepal. The trekking involves some of the toughest trails in the Himalayan Region. However, the landscapes are just wonderful. Despite the remote location & a lot of tough walking involved during the Manaslu Circuit Trek, your sweat and toil will be amply rewarded with the mesmerizing scenery and fascinating cultures of the inhabitants.

You must have a licensed trekking guide and must apply through a registered trekking company for any permits to trek in the Manaslu Region. As of March 22, 2026, an update from the Department of Immigration of Nepal, solo trekkers can now trek individually – previously, you needed to be in a group of two people. Higher Limits Trek will arrange all permits, transfers, and accommodations for your 14 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek 2026/2027.

Why the Manaslu Circuit Trek is worth your two weeks

Two weeks of vacation is a lot of time. Many people only get this kind of vacation once a year. So, the real question isn't "is Manaslu nice?" — it's "is this the best way to spend my two weeks?" Here's our honest answer.

Cross Larkya La Pass (5,106m) – not just a viewpoint

The Manaslu Circuit is a complete loop with a high-altitude pass crossing as its centerpiece. You will cross Larkya La Pass at 5,106m, one of the longest passes in the Himalaya of Nepal. The pass is remote, difficult, and crossed by fewer trekkers. It offers a 360-degree view of Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II.

Less crowded routes: The Manaslu is one of the restricted areas in Nepal. The trails are quiet and less crowded even in peak seasons. Perfect for spending time with nature and experiencing the remote side of Nepal.

Two ecosystems within 14 days: In the Manaslu Circuit Trek, you will walk from Machha Khola (870m), through subtropical terraced rice fields, and warm temperatures. After a few days, you will cross Larkya La Pass (5,106m), descend to Bhimtang, a different valley, and end your trek in the Annapurna region. Most treks in Nepal stay in one valley and go back the same way.

Explore Tibetan Culture: From Day 5 onwards of trekking, you will walk into Tibetan-Buddhist villages - Lho-Shyala, Samagaun, Samdo. You can explore 200-year-old monasteries in the Manaslu region that are still active. You can sleep in traditional stone houses and eat Tibetan food. Here, you will experience ancient monasteries, prayer flags, and mani walls that strongly reflect the Tibetan Buddhist Culture.

Explore Monasteries: The Manaslu Circuit passes many ancient Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Nepal, Pung Gyen Gompa, Sama Gompa, and the monasteries at Lho and Namrung. Each one of them reflects centuries of Himalayan Buddhist tradition, with ancient murals, prayer halls, and resident monks. You can read our guide to the monasteries in the Manaslu region for more details.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Difficulty: Larkya La Pass

The Larkya La is one of the most difficult and longest passes to cross in Nepal. It lies between the Manaslu and Marshyangdi valleys, and is the access point to the Annapurna Circuit. On a clear morning from the Larkya La, you will see Cheo Himal, Himlung Himal, Kang Guru, Annapurna II, and Manaslu North all at once.

You will cross the pass on day 11 of the trekking journey. The crossing day is long, so early in the morning, you will begin the journey from Dharamsala (4,460m) up to the Larkya La Pass, and descend to Bhimtang (3,790m) within 8-9 hours of trekking.

Who is this Trek suitable for?

The Manalsu Circuit Trek is suitable for fit trekkers; it is not a complete beginner route. You should be ready to walk 5-8 hours per day, stay above 5,000m, sleep in basic teahouse accommodation (shared bathrooms, limited hot water), and be in a remote area where helicopter evacuation is the only emergency option above Samagaun.

Prior experience at altitude is not necessary to complete this trek. Still, you need to have good cardio fitness, mentally prepare for long days on the trail, and have the desire to walk in cold weather at high altitude. If you have completed Annapurna Base Camp, Everest Base Camp, or Langtang Valley, you should be able to complete the Manaslu Circuit.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost

The cost of the Manaslu Circuit Trek depends on several factors, including group size, trek duration, level of service, and the season you choose to travel. Since the trek lies in a restricted region, permit fees and guide requirements also influence the overall price.

Our Manaslu Circuit Trek package starts from US$850 per person for larger groups. The price is US$950 per person for groups of 2–6 trekkers and US$1,100 for solo trekkers.

The package price covers all the essential trekking expenses, including accommodation during the trek, meals, required permits, transportation, and the services of a licensed guide.

Personal expenses such as Wi-Fi, porter, charging fees, hot showers, drinks, snacks, travel insurance, and tips for guides and porters are not included. We recommend carrying some extra cash for these expenses, as ATM facilities are not available along the trekking route.

Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola by Bus

Early morning, after breakfast, pick up from your hotel and drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (870m.) takes about eight/nine hours. You drive along the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway for the first part of the day; after Malekhu, you turn towards the hill bazaar of Dhading Bensi.

After Dhading, the road is still good up to Salyantar but quite narrow. After Salyantar, the road is bumpy and dusty, but the beautiful scenery and villages will make your day memorable.

You will reach your destination, Machha Khola, late in the afternoon. There is a small market with a few shops, lodges, and donkeys that are kept there. Stay your first night in the mountains in Machha Khola.

Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat

You cross the Machha Khola [Fish Stream] and head upstream to the tiny village of Khorla Bensi and the hot springs at Tatopani. The valley sides are steep enough to be impassable, and the route then switches to the left bank via a suspension bridge.

The trail is quite exposed and challenging in places. After a short stretch of forest path, you reach the only teahouse at Doban. Above Doban, the Budi Gandaki descends on an impressive series of rapids. Beyond this steep section, the river is much more placid, meandering across a broad gravel bed.

At Lauri, you cross the river on a suspension bridge, and then climb on a high path to the fields of Jagat, where you stop for another night at mountain.

From Philim, you trek over a flat, leveled path mostly through a forest of pine, rhododendron, and others. While walking, you cross a few bridges and can see villages at a far distance. A few houses are seen at Deng. From here, you can enjoy a pretty waterfall lying at some distance.

Deng is famous for its potatoes, buck wheat, barley, wheat, cabbage, and spinach, as people are mostly involved in agriculture in this area. Stay overnight at the Tea House in Deng.

Add-Ons & Options

The price of the trip depends on the services you choose. We have many optional add-on services that can help customize your experience such as helicopter services, porters, private transportation, additional guides, accommodation and more. You can choose the "add-ons" that fit best with your travel preferences & budget.

We suggest you hire a porter to carry your backpack while on the trek. Trekking with a light day pack is much easier, and you enjoy your trekking holidays to the fullest. A trekking porter carries about 20-25Kg (about 10-12Kg from each of you), and we suggest you hire a porter for two trekkers.

If you are uncomfortable traveling by bus, then you can upgrade the transportation to a private jeep from Kathmandu to Machha Khola. The drive takes about 7-8 hours through Dhading Besi and Arughat. In one jeep, 5 passengers can travel.

If you are uncomfortable traveling by bus after trekking, then you can upgrade the transportation to a private jeep from Dharapani to Kathmandu. The drive takes about 9-10hours. In one jeep, 5 passengers can travel.

Do you need accommodation for extra nights in Kathmandu? You can add hotel stays at a (2-3) - star hotel with breakfast included. The cost is $ 50 per night for a single room and $ 55 per night for a double room.

Essential Information

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permits 2026 Update

The Manaslu region is a restricted trekking area, which means obtaining permits is more complex than a standard Nepali trek — and critically, you cannot apply for the main permit yourself. It must be processed through a registered trekking agency like Higher Limits Trek & Expedition. Three permits are required:

1. Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP)

This is the primary permit and the most important. It is required from Jagat (the first checkpoint at 1,340m) all the way through the restricted zone. The cost depends on the season:

  • Autumn (September–November): USD 100 per person for the first 7 days, then USD 15 per additional day
  • All other seasons (December–August): USD 75 per person for the first 7 days, then USD 10 per additional day

Important: Before March 2026, you had to travel in pairs in Restricted Areas, but now the requirements have been removed. Now you can travel solo but with a licensed guide. For more information, you can check the Restricted Area Permit Update.

2. Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)

The Manaslu Conservation Area Permit is required for entering the Manaslu Conservation Area protected zone. Fixed cost year-round: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) per person.

3. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit is required as the trail exits the Manaslu region near Dharapani and enters the Annapurna Conservation Area. Fixed cost: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) per person.

4. Chumnubri Rural Municipality Permit

Chumnubri Rural Municipality Permit is a local government permit issued by the Chumnubri Rural Municipality. The collected fee is used for local trail maintenance, suspension bridge repairs, and check post staffing of most of the upper Manaslu villages – including Lho, Sama Gaun, and Samdo. Cost: NPR 1,000 per person (approx. USD 8)

All four permits are included in the Higher Limits Trek package price and arranged entirely by our team. You provide a passport scan, Nepal visa copy, and travel insurance details — we handle everything with the Nepal Department of Immigration.

The process required to obtain a permit to enter the Manaslu region is more complicated than in the normal trekking permit system found elsewhere in Nepal, since there are various types of permits to enter the restricted area, multiple checkpoints along the trek, and a new Chumnubri Municipal Permit required for those travelling after 2026. We handle all necessary permits for you as part of the package. For additional information about how to obtain each of the permits listed above, including the associated fees, and the effects of the new 2026 regulations on your trek, refer to our complete guide to the Manaslu region permits.

If you would like to study Nepal's trekking permit system in more detail, including TIMS cards, conservation area permits, and restricted area rules, then you can check our full guide on Trekking Permits in Nepal.

Best Time for 14 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek

The best seasons for the Manaslu Circuit Trek are:

Manaslu Circuit Trek in Spring (March - May)

The spring season is one of the most popular times for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. During this season, the weather is stable, with clear skies, and it offers beautiful scenery when trekking through the mountains. The rhododendron trees that grow in the dry forests surrounding the trek are also flowering at this time of year, creating not only a beautiful scene but also providing pleasant weather for travelers. This season is perfect for traveling and experiencing the beauty of nature.

Manaslu Circuit Trek in Autumn (September - November)

Autumn is generally considered the best time for trekking in the Manaslu region. After the monsoon season, the atmosphere is clean and free of dust, resulting in a clear line of sight to the mountains. Typically, the sky is clear during this time, allowing for uninterrupted panoramic views of the beautiful Himalayas, including Manaslu. The weather is usually stable, which helps ensure a safe and comfortable trekking experience.

Winter treks are also possible for experienced trekkers, while the monsoon season is less recommended due to rain and cloudy views.

For more information on which season suits you best, read our complete guide to the best time to trek the Manaslu region.

Health & Safety on Manaslu Circuit Trek

The highest altitude reached during the trek is Larkya La Pass (5,106m), the longest pass of the Himalaya, so there are chances of high altitude.

Signs to watch for:

  • Headaches or dizziness
  • Nausea or loss of appetite
  • Shortness of breath even while resting
  • Fatigue or trouble sleeping

How to be safe:

  • Walk slowly and take your time
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Eat well and stay energized
  • Take proper rest and acclimatize
  • Please inform your guide if you feel uneasy

You can enjoy every sunrise, every stunning view, and every step along the Manaslu trails with confidence with proper acclimatization.

Travel Insurance Recommendations

Mountain adventure is thrilling, but peace of mind is priceless. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers the following:

  • High-altitude trekking (up to 6,000m)
  • Medical emergencies and evacuation by helicopter
  • Hospital stays, medications

Knowing you are fully covered lets you focus on the beauty around you – the glacial valleys, towering peaks, and the quiet majesty of Manaslu – without worry.

A Typical Day on the Manaslu Trekking Route

A typical day on the Manaslu Circuit Trek begins with breakfast at the teahouse while admiring the beautiful scenery of mountains and valleys. After breakfast, you will start trekking through scenic trails in the forest, where you are welcomed by beautiful mountain and valley views.

Along the way, you will have a break for tea, photos, and lunch at local teahouses. Most trekking days involve around 5–8 hours of walking, though some days are shorter while others, especially around Larkya La Pass, can be longer and more challenging.

By afternoon, you will arrive at the teahouse for the night, where you can relax, explore the village, or enjoy the Himalayan scenery. After dinner, you can spend time chatting with fellow travelers and discussing the next day's plan. Or you can head to bed soon after dinner.

Meals on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Meals on the Manaslu Circuit Trek are simple but are enough to keep trekkers energized during long days on the trail. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided during the trek, and usually served in the teahouse where you stay.

For breakfast, you can have porridge, Tibetan bread, pancakes, eggs, toast, muesli, tea, and coffee. Lunch and dinner menus are quite similar; you can get food items like Dal Bhat, fried rice, noodles, pastas, momos, soups, potatoes, and vegetable curries. Food choices become more limited at higher elevations as supplies are transported by porters, mules, and yaks.

Vegetarian meals are widely available and are often preferred by trekkers at higher elevations. There are vegan options available at the teahouses, but you might get limited options in the remote villages. Snacks, chocolates, and soft drinks are available in many settlements, but prices gradually increase as you ascend higher into the mountains.

Accommodation during the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Accommodation on the Manaslu Circuit Trek is in locally run teahouses that offer a simple but comfortable place to rest after a day on the trail. We always try our best to provide the best available teahouses in each village to ensure a pleasant trekking experience. Rooms are usually twin-sharing with basic bedding, blankets, and pillows. In the lower villages, some lodges have attached bathrooms, while at higher elevations, shared toilets and washing facilities are more common. Evenings are often spent in the communal dining room, enjoying a warm meal, a cup of tea, and sharing stories with fellow trekkers before heading to bed.

Wi-Fi and Electricity on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Electricity is available in most villages along the Manaslu Circuit, but don't expect a constant power supply, especially as you climb higher. In places like Samagaon and Samdo, charging your phone, camera, or power bank is usually possible, though teahouses often charge a small fee per device. Wi-Fi can be found in some teahouses, but the connection tends to be slow and unreliable, particularly at higher elevations. It's a good idea to bring a power bank, spare batteries, a headlamp, and a universal adapter, as these can be very useful on days when electricity is limited.

Acclimatization on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Proper acclimatization is essential on the Manaslu Circuit Trek, especially as the trail crosses Larkya La Pass (5,106 m). As you gain altitude, the oxygen level decreases, making it important to ascend gradually and allow your body time to adjust. To aid acclimatization, we include a rest day in Samagaon, where trekkers can relax or take short hikes to nearby viewpoints. Our guides are experienced in recognizing the symptoms of altitude sickness, but if symptoms worsen, descending to a lower elevation remains the most effective treatment. We also recommend consulting your doctor before the trek if you have any pre-existing heart, lung, or medical conditions.

Fitness and Experience Required for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek involves walking for around 5–8 hours a day, with a few longer and more demanding days at higher elevations. While previous trekking experience is not mandatory, a good level of fitness and regular walking or hiking beforehand will make the journey more enjoyable. The trek is suitable for anyone physically active, prepared for consecutive days of hiking, and comfortable spending time at high altitude.
