The next part of the day involves a 4 hours trek to Phakding through the Dudh Koshi River Valley. It’s a gentle descent from Lukla along rocky and well-made stone paths. On the way we will pass Cheplung village and reach at Ghat then trail will ascends to the Phakding Village.

4Day

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar

From Phakding, we double cross a river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was introduced in order to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment. Next it’s a steep hike to Namche. If the weather is clear, we get the first glimpse of Mt Everest. Namche is a central trading village in the Khumbu and has a busy Saturday market – an old time meeting place for the Hindu traders who hail from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La.

5Day

Namche Bazaar Acclimatization day.

Today, we will spend the day at Namche Bazaar. It’s the largest village in the Khumbu region and has many modern facilities, such as WIFI, ATMs, Cafe and Museums.

6Day

Trek from Namche to Dole

7Day

Trek from Dole to Machhermo

From Dole, you climb steadily along the side of the valley, where the small and thorny bushes give way to scrub junipers as the altitude increases. The trail cuts across many summer settlements. Ahead of you are excellent views of Cho Oyu, while back down the valley you can view the peaks of Kantega and Thamserku. This is a short day and you will arrive at Machhermo in time for lunch. Stay overnight at your lodge.

8Day

Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo

Today you head for wonder lakes of Gokyo. As you hike, you follow a scenic trail to Pangkha & then descend slightly, following one of the melting-water Rivers which flow down from the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier. You climb a steep rocky path inclined into the valley by the side of the glacier, passing the first of the holy lakes. You soon arrive at the second of the lakes, crossing the path which heads across the glacier to Cho La (5420m) – your route to Lobuche and Everest, later in the trek. The third lake is known as Dudh Pokhari and on its eastern shore lies the settlement of Gokyo. Walking by the side of the lake, your eyes take in the scenery which is magnificent with the summits of Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang reflected in its emerald green waters. Stay overnight at a lodge.

9Day

Trek from Gokyo to Gokyo Ri (5483 meters) and then Back to Gokyo

Which takes about four and half hours. Gokyo Ri looms above the village on the northern edge of the lake and you leave camp just after first light, following a steep path up the hillside. As you climb, the summits of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu slowly come into sight and the view from the summit of Gokyo Ri itself is one of the finest to behold in the Everest region – some say it is even better than that from Kala Patthar. After lunch, it is a short walk to the village of Thangna, situated at the shore of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Stay overnight at your lodge.

10Day

Trek from Gokyo to Thangna

11Day

Trek from ThangnaCross Cho La pass to Dzongla

Now you ascend slightly along the valley towards Chola pass. The Chola pass is most times covered with blue ice that tends to give you that icy cold feeling of the chill. Down here, you can also enjoy the majestic views of various mountain peaks. From here, the trail descends steeply down for an hour and then slightly descends all the way to Dzongla. Stay overnight at a lodge.

12Day

Trek from Dzongla to Lobuche East High Camp

13Day

Summit Lobuche East (6,119m) and back to base camp 8 – 9Hours (4850m). Overnight at Tented camp.

Today we will have an early start at three in the morning and start moving up the rock band with head lamps. It will take three and half hours maximum to reach the snowline where there is a small glacier and then the climb starts up at an angle of 45 to 50 degrees all the way to the summit ridge. From the summit ridge, it is another 50m to the fake summit (this is the summit where most people make it to). The true summit is little further, where you have to be careful with the snow conditions and there is a knife ridge. The views during the climb are spectacular as you see Everest as you climb up. Lhotse is also seen as it is slightly hidden behind the south face of Nuptse. Climb down to high camp, where the cooks will be waiting with tea, water, juice and some soups. After we pack our tents, we will head down towards base camp.

Essential Information

Meals/Foods:

Every day’s breakfast, lunch & dinner is included in the package during the trekking and climbing. This will be a dish of Nepali, Indian or Continental source cooked by the lodgings you stay at and will be cooked by our professional cook during the camping.

Acclimatization:

Keep in mind that you will be passing above 5000m/16400ft and reaching at 6119m during the journey to the top of the Lobuche East Peak. Walking fast at such elevation could lead to medical complications (Acute Mountain Sickness) which could be serious. There is less oxygen compared to sea level in high-altitudes places. The higher, altitude will be the less oxygen in air. Your body needs a days to acclimatize to this environment, which is why we will stop a day rest in Namche Bazzar and in Gokyo. Although we provide information regarding AMS insurance, the only option for treatment is descending (evacuation). We advise that clients with known heart, lung or blood diseases, or clients over the age of 60 to discuss with their doctor before traveling with us.

Symptoms of AMS include mild to severe headaches, dizziness, fever, loss of appetite or stomach pain; it is important to alert our staff if you are feeling poorly to ensure that illness does not progress.

Health and Experience Required:

Lobuche East Via Gokyo  Chola Pass and EBC trek involves five to seven hours walking per day and Ice climbing during the climb. However, it is some part of this trip at very high altitude, which will take a physical toll. There are no special physical or training requirements, but if you have high altitude experience & trekking is a benefit.
