As you gain altitude, the scenery changes from green forests to rugged mountain landscapes, with views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and other surrounding peaks. After spending time at Annapurna Base Camp, the route follows the trail back through Bamboo before returning to Pokhara.

This short Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary is designed for trekkers who want to experience Annapurna Base Camp while having limited time for a longer Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

Why Choose the 6 Days ABC Routes?

The Annapurna Base Camp trek consists of different routes and trekking durations. If you are already in Pokhara and want to trek to Annapurna Base Camp without spending many days on the lower sections and side trips of the route, this 6-day itinerary offers a focused way to make the journey. The trek starts with a private drive to Jhinu Danda where a natural hot spring is located.

Start Your ABC Trek Directly from Pokhara

Pokhara is the starting point of the ABC trek. You will take a 3 hours private jeep drive from Pokhara to Jhinu Danda, where the walking section begins. This trek is perfect for trekkers who are already visiting Pokhara and want to include Annapurna Base Camp in their Nepal trip within the week's journey.

Begin Walking from Jhinu Danda

Starting from Jhinu Danda and trekking to Lower Sinuwa keeps the itinerary focused on the main trekking experience. Instead of spending several days covering the lower approach, you begin walking through the villages and forested sections of the Annapurna trail and gradually move toward higher terrain.

As you climb, the surroundings change from dense forests and mountain paths to the more open landscapes around Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp.

Reach Annapurna Base Camp in Four Days

The main objective of this itinerary is to reach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters within a four-day journey.

It is designed for travelers who want to experience the ABC trek but do not have enough time for a longer itinerary and side trips. The route keeps the focus on reaching the base camp while still allowing time for the return journey to Pokhara.

Experience the Annapurna Sanctuary

The trek is not only about reaching the final destination. The route takes you deeper into the Annapurna Sanctuary, where the landscape changes as you gain altitude.

You pass through Himalaya and Machhapuchhre Base Camp before continuing toward Annapurna Base Camp. This gives you the chance to experience both the forested lower trail and the high mountain (Snow) environment within one short itinerary.

A Simple Start and Finish

The journey is planned around Pokhara, making the logistics straightforward. After reaching Annapurna Base Camp, you follow the trail back through Bamboo before continuing by vehicle to Pokhara.

For travelers with limited time, having the trek start and finish around the same city makes it easier to combine the journey with other  plans in Nepal.

Who Is Fit for This Beautiful Trek?

This 6-day trek is suitable for travelers who:

  • Are already in Pokhara or plan to visit Pokhara before the trek.
  • Have around a week for their Annapurna Base Camp experience.
  • Prefer to start the journey  from Pokhara.
  • Want a focused direct route to Annapurna Base Camp rather than a longer Annapurna side trip itinerary.
  • Want to experience the changing landscapes of the Annapurna Sanctuary.
  • Prefer an itinerary that returns to Pokhara after the trek.
  • Want to experience Annapurna Base Camp by walking within a week.

Short Itinerary Outline

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek - 6 Days Detailed Itinerary

1Day

Drive from Pokhara to Jhinu Danda and Trek to Lower Sinuwa

Your Annapurna Base Camp Trek from Pokhara journey begins with a jeep drive from Pokhara to Jhinu Danda, about 3 hours. Your trekking guide will pick you up from your hotel around 7:00 AM in the morning after breakfast. The drive follows the Modi Khola valley through small villages and terraced fields. After reaching Nayapul, the road gets off-road and bumpy. Sit on the left side for the first views of Machhapuchhre.

After a few hours of driving, you will reach Jhinu Danda and trek to Lower Sinuwa for about 4-5 hours through Chomrong village. This is the first day of trekking, so walk at a steady pace. We stay in a simple and cozy teahouse. While having your dinner, your guide will brief you on tomorrow’s route.

2Day

Trek from Lower Sinuwa to Himalaya

After having breakfast, you will continue trekking in the cool morning toward the Himalaya. The route ascends through Upper Sinuwa and Kuldi Ghar, then into thick rhododendron and bamboo forest.

You will walk through Bamboo and Dovan, crossing a few suspension bridges over the Modi Khola. We will stop for lunch at Bamboo/Dovan. After a short break, we continue  our journey walking through the forest. You will reach the Himalaya by mid-afternoon. Check in at the teahouse and freshen up, or you can roam around the village. Dinner is served early, and your guide will check how everyone is feeling before bed.

3Day

Trek from Himalaya to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC)

Around 7:00 AM, we start walking early while the morning sky is clear. The route ascends from the forest to Deurali, where the trees thin out and the valleys slowly open up. You can have a short break and drink water. After Deurali, the trail becomes open alpine terrain. You will come across the Hinku Cave area. After a while, Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South come into view, and they get bigger and more beautiful with every step.

By early afternoon, you will reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). You have some time to rest and watch the surrounding peaks in the afternoon light, which looks majestic. The temperature gets colder, and the air is thin. Inform your guide about any headache, poor sleep, nausea, or any difficulties.

4Day

Trek from Machhapuchhre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp

After having an early breakfast, we leave MBC behind and move forward to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Today, you will gain approximately 700m altitude. Put on your down jacket because the morning air is cold. The route climbs steadily over open, rocky moraine with no trees. Today, the walk is short, but every step is at high altitude. So, walk slowly, breathe steadily, and rest when your guide says. The Annapurna Sanctuary opens up around you, and now Machhapuchhre looks like it is beside you rather than above you.

We reach Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), and there you will be surrounded by Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Gangapurna and more. You can drop your bag, take photos, and admire the beauty of the Himalayas closely with your own eyes. The afternoon is free, so stay warm and drink lots of water. We sleep at ABC, and it is the coldest night of the trek. Your guide checks everyone for altitude symptoms before bed, and do not forget to set your alarm for the sunrise views for the next day.

5Day

Trek from Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo

The trek from Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) down to Bamboo takes us back to the same routes we came across early in the journey. The trail descends downhill, passing through Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, then through the rockey valley and rugged high terrain, into alpine forests again.

The trail slowly winds its way into thick rhododendron and bamboo forests as one moves past Himalaya and Dovan, following the Modi Khola downstream. This downhill walk offers varied scenery, fresh mountain air, and a comfortable overnight stop in Bamboo after a fulfilling time at Annapurna Base Camp.

6Day

Trek from Bamboo to Jhinu Danda and Drive to Pokhara

After breakfast, begin the final trekking day from Bamboo to Jhinu Danda. The trail continues downhill through the forest, with several stone steps and uneven sections along the way.

The walk takes approximately 4–5 hours depending on your pace and trail conditions. After reaching Jhinu Danda, meet your private vehicle and drive back to Pokhara. The drive takes approximately 3 hours.

Your 6-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek ends when you arrive in Pokhara.

Essential Information

Best Time to Trek Annapurna Base Camp

You can do Annapurna Base Camp in different seasons, but the experience depends heavily on trail conditions, temperature, and mountain views. Spring and autumn offer comfortable conditions and the best overall experience for the journey.

Spring (March to May): In spring, the weather is suitable and comfortable for trekking, with warmer temperatures at lower elevations and the best mountain views. The trails are generally easier to walk. During this season, rhododendrons begin to bloom along the forested sections.

Monsoon (June to August): If you trek during the monsoon, the experience is different. The lower trail can be wet, muddy, and slippery, and clouds may hide the mountains. The higher parts of the route can still be accessible, but weather conditions should be checked before departure.

Autumn (September to November): Autumn is overall the best season for ABC cause the weather is usually dry and comfortable for walking. The skies are clearer, which provides clear and some of the best Annapurna mountain views.

Winter (December to February): During winter, the short itinerary can still be possible, but the higher sections are much colder, and snow or icy conditions may affect the trail. Warm clothing and proper preparation become particularly important.

Which Season Should You Choose?

If your priority is stable weather and clearer mountain views, spring and autumn are generally suitable periods for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. If you are travelling during the monsoon or winter, the trek may still be possible, but preparation and current weather and trail conditions become more important.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty

The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a moderate to challenging trek. The route is manageable for people with reasonable fitness, but the short 6-day schedule means you need to be prepared for several hours of walking on consecutive days.

The main challenge is not technical climbing. It is the combination of daily walking, uphill and downhill sections, uneven mountain trails, and increasing altitude as you approach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters.

What Makes the Trek Challenging?

  • Altitude: The trail climbs steadily from Jhinu Danda to Annapurna Base Camp, so your body needs time to adjust as you gain elevation.
  • Long Walking Days: The itinerary covers the main route within six days, meaning some trekking days involve several hours of walking.
  • Uneven Trails: Stone steps, rocky paths, forest trails, and steep sections are part of the route.
  • Weather Changes: Conditions can change as you move from the lower forested areas toward the higher sections.
  • Downhill Walking: The return journey also requires continuous walking, including downhill sections that can be tiring after reaching ABC.

Who Can Do This Trek?

You do not need previous Himalayan trekking experience to join the trek, but being comfortable with regular walking and uphill activity will make the journey easier. Preparing with walking, stair climbing, hiking, or other cardio activities before the trek can be helpful.

If you are new to trekking, it is important not to judge the difficulty only by the 6-day duration. The itinerary is short because the trek starts from Jhinu Danda, but the higher sections still require proper preparation.

The best approach is to maintain a steady pace, take regular breaks, drink enough water, and listen to your guide when you are feeling tired or experiencing difficulty at altitude.

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation during the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is arranged in local teahouses and lodges along the trekking route. These are simple mountain accommodations that provide a place to rest after each day's walk.

Rooms are generally basic and are commonly arranged on a twin-sharing basis. Facilities become more limited as you move toward the higher parts of the trail, which is normal for trekking in the Annapurna region.

Meals During the Trek

Meals are available at the teahouses along the route. You can choose from locally prepared meals and common trekking dishes, depending on what is available at each stop.

Breakfast and dinner are generally taken at the teahouse where you stay, while lunch is usually arranged at a teahouse along the day's walking route.

As you gain altitude, food choices may become more limited. Carrying a few personal snacks such as chocolate, energy bars, or dry food can be useful, particularly on longer walking days.

Permits for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Base Camp lies inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, so trekkers need the required conservation-area permit before entering the trekking route. The trek also requires a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card.

For this 6-day itinerary, you do not need to arrange these permits yourself. Our team can handle the required permit arrangements before you begin the trek.

What You Need to Provide

  • To process the permits, you will need to provide us:
  • A copy of your passport
  • A valid copy of your Nepal visa
  • A passport-size photo
  • Travel insurance details

We recommend providing the required information to our team in advance so the permits can be prepared before your trek begins.
