This trek follows a beautiful circuit through the Helambu region, with Sundarijal serving as the ideal starting point due to its close proximity to Kathmandu. Helambu is less frequented by trekkers compared to popular regions like Everest or Annapurna, making it perfect for those seeking quieter trails. It is considered one of the most stunning regions in the Himalayan foothills, located just a few days’ walk from the Kathmandu Valley rim and directly northeast of Kathmandu in the central Himalayan region.
The route passes through the Langtang region and connects to Helambu. The Langtang area, declared a national park in 1976, is Nepal’s second-largest national park, covering 1710 sq. km of mountainous terrain along the Nepal–Tibet (China) border. This region provides rich cultural immersion, home to three major ethnic groups: the Tamangs, Bhotias, and Yolmus, whose monasteries and religious heritage represent Buddhist culture at its finest. At lower elevations along the park’s edges live other mid-hill tribes and castes, including Brahmins, Chhetries, Newars, and some Gurungs.
