Number Cheese Circuit Trek is a virgin circuit trekking trail in the lap of the Everest and Rolwaling Region. If you want to escape the congestion of commercialized trekking trails and get truly ‘off-the-beaten track,’ then plan your journey along the newly developed route, the Number Cheese Circuit (NCC). Located in Ramechhap, around 190 km east of Kathmandu, the NCC is a 14–16 day circuit trail connecting two beautiful river valleys—Khimti and Likhu—set against the backdrop of the Everest and Rolwaling ranges. Named after the virgin peak Numburchuli (6959m) and one of Nepal’s first Yak Cheese factories established in 1957, this trail offers spectacular views of majestic Himalayan peaks including the Everest range, Numburchuli, Gaurishanker, Jugal, and Langtang Himal. The NCC combines eco-lodge accommodation, camping, and unique Sherpa home-stay experiences, immersing trekkers in pristine nature and vibrant Sherpa culture.

  • Explore sacred high-altitude lakes in untouched wilderness.
  • Authentic Sherpa culture, home-stays, and historic yak cheese tradition.
  • Chance to spot rare wildlife like Red Panda and Musk Deer.
  • Cross thrilling high passes with panoramic Himalayan vistas.

The Number Cheese Circuit boasts breathtaking views of Himalayan giants such as Numburchuli (6959m), Sarmoche (5255m), Ramdung (5930m), Chukyima Go (6259m), Parchamo (6273m), Bigphrea Go Nup (6666m), Paniyo Tippa (6696m), and Paniyo Shar (6549m). The trail is also home to stunning glaciers and moraines including Linkhu Nup Glacier, Bigphere Go Glacier, Surmoche Glacier, Likhu Glacier, and other smaller glaciers. The folded mountain ranges of Gumdel, the rocky terrains around Panchpokhari and Tare, and the glaciated landscapes of Tare Kharka are some of the most scenic highlights. High-altitude Himalayan lakes—such as Panchpokhari, Jatapokhari, Bhalepokhari, and Dudhpokhari—are revered by pilgrims and rich in biodiversity, making them prime attractions of the region. The circuit offers a chance to encounter unique flora and fauna along the Khimti and Likhu river valleys, from pine forests and blooming rhododendrons to bamboo patches and alpine pastures, supporting endangered wildlife like Red Panda, Musk Deer, Himalayan Thar, and various pheasant species including Danfe, with the possibility of spotting the elusive Snow Leopard. Beautiful monasteries in Lhachhewar, Kyama, Bhandar, and Thodung offer an added spiritual and meditative dimension to the trek.

The NCC is the perfect choice for trekkers seeking virgin, less-traveled regions of Nepal. Unique tourism activities along this trail include soft to adventurous eco-camping, rock climbing, exploring high-altitude lakes, wilderness walks through mountain forests, glacier walks, base camp treks, high pastures, and Sherpa yak-cheese cultural experiences. Spiritual and meditation visits to monasteries, along with biodiversity and climate research opportunities, add depth to the journey, complemented by genuine interaction with rural Sherpa communities. With incredible mountain vistas and dramatic high passes like Panchpokhari Pass (4605m) and Gyajo La (Thulo Lapcha) at 4880m, offering sweeping views north into Tibet and south towards P-Key and Tabe Danda, the Number Cheese Circuit Trek stands out as one of Nepal’s most enriching and adventurous trekking experiences.
