Chitwan National Park

The first national park of Nepal is chitawan national park situated in the subtropical inner Terai lowlands of south central Nepal covering an area of 932 sq km which was established in 1973.Recognizing its unique ecosystem of international significance, the park was declared by UNNESCO as a world heritage site in 1984.The park consists of a unique ecosystem, including the Churia hills, ox-bow lakes and the flood plains of the Rapti, Reu and Narayani rivers. This is one of the richest wildlife habitats of Asia.

Approximately 70% of the park vegetation is Sal forest. The remaining vegetation types include grassland 20%, riverine forest 7%and Sal with chirpine 3% the later occurring at the top of the Churiya range.Chitawan national park is famous for wildlife activities and jungle safari tour there are more then 43 species of mammals in the park. The park is especially home for the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, the tiger and the gharial crocodile along with many other common species such as gaur, wild elephant, four horned antelope, striped hyena, pangolin, hog deer, barking deer, sloth bear, Gangetic dolphin, sambar, chital, palm civet, langur and rhesus monkey etc.About 450 species of bird found in this park like: Bengal florican, giant hornbill, lesser florican, black stork and white stork. Common birds seen in the park include the peafowl, red jungle owl and different species of egrets, herons, kingfisher, flycatchers and woodpeckers, crocodile, cobra, green pit viper and various species of frogs and tortoises etc.

You can experience this wild world is by 4 wheel drive jeep. By jeep or elephant back safari, you can go deep into the heart of the park, viewing some of the rare species of flora and fauna. You can also go on foot in to the park as a jungle walk, bird watching escorted by our well-trained naturalist who will interpret to you the concealed secrets of the jungle. You will have a great opportunity to see many species of birds and mammals.

Another activity in the park is the boat/canoe trip down the Rapti and the Narayani Rivers as for like rafting. This is one of the more serene ways to explore the area as float downstream with the river’s flow. On the out skirts of Chitwan you can see the Tharu community, see their culture, their life style, their typical dance and how they manage life next to the national park. A Chitwan jungle safari is certainly an adventure that the whole family can enjoy there are available hotels/Resorts and lodges in and out of the park for accommodation.
