We visits Budhathum Village in Dhading District again to distribute relief materials!
On 22 May, along with our staffs paid a second visit to Budhathum Village where I was born, in Dhading district to distribute second batch of relief materials to the victims of Earthquake disaster. The visit was organized by the Higher Limits Trek & Expedition in cooperation and support of all our international friends.
Previously, we have visited the village on 1st -5th May, 2015 and made first-hand observation of the earthquake disaster in the village as well as distributed beaten rice, mattress, dry noodles and tarpaulins. The villagers had requested us to provide more provisions of food supplies and tarpaulins as it had not been adequate enough to accommodate the entire wards.
Keeping good on the promise, this time according to the villager demand and recent needed we distributed relief materials such as mosquito net 300 piece, cooking oils 90 litters and 150kg salt to the earthquake victims of Budhathum village in close coordination of the Main Committee for Disaster Relief set up at VDC level.
The main committee has a representation of all 9 wards in the village. Further, various subcommittees under the main committee have been formed with participation of locals from every ward. Women participation and leadership in each of these committees have been well ensured. The local mechanism for distribution of relief materials has been pretty impressive, transparent and fair.
The Committees have been providing relief materials on a need basis with first priority given to the families who have lost their members. Second priority to families with injured members, third to those families whose houses have been completely destroyed and finally fourth consideration given to those victims with partially damaged houses. After discussion with the villager we have made further commitment to offer a third batch of relief materials to be sent to the village soon. But we were not sure if we can manage the money for this.
The lovely villager accorded utmost hospitality and welcomed the team with their full heart in spite of this difficult moment. Our third leg of relief campaign will begin immediately with focus on affected villages in other districts too if we are able to manage the financial support. We will post about the activities of the next round of relief campaign. Finally, we would like to thank again our national and international friends who have encouragingly supported and took part in this campaign and hope your compassionate assistance will be equally forthcoming in the coming days.
