Sailung Park in the North and the golden Sun Koshi River graceful along the south mark the start/end point respectively of the Indigenous Peoples Trail which offers a unique and natural combination of ethnic cultural diversity joined with breathtaking Himalayan and mid-Hill panoramas.

Lying totally on the Mahabharat range, the IP Trail offers mostly local Home-stay accommodation experiences offering trekkers a rare chance to experience the culture and lifestyle of six different Nepali ethnic groups. This top-down, gentle trek suits all types of trekkers particularly visitors wishing to avoid extreme high altitudes. The week long trail takes visitors from a starting elevation of 3146m at Sailung to 533m at by the Sunkoshi River.

The Indigenous Peoples Trail is an unforgettable combine cultural, Himalayan views and beautiful landscapes. The trail boasts amazing mountain views including the unique Himalayan panoramas from Sailung offering one of Nepal few unimpeded Himalayan panoramas of the complete 400km Himalayan range including Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Jugal, Rolwaling, Everest and  Kanchenjunga Himal ranges. It is against this superb Himalayan backdrop that visitors are welcomed into the culture and lifestyle of indigenous communities including Sherpa, Newar, Thami, Tamang, Yolma and Majhis. The two main Nepali religious, Hinduism and Buddhism, are ever present with a variety of gods and goddess, temples, stupas, monasteries and sacred caves.

The trail passes through the stunning folded Mahabharat range and rolling terraced farmlands. The virgin forests at Sailung, Rajveer, Augleshwori, Galba and Khandadevi are the unique habitat for varieties of wildlife including pheasant, deer and Languor monkey, as well as a seasonal spring blaze of blooming rhododendron.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunge and trek to Sailung (7hrs).
Day 04: Trek from Sailung to Khola Kharka
Day 05: Trek from Khola Kharka to Surkey (4:30hrs)
Day 06: Trek from Surkey to Doramba (4hrs)
Day 07: Trek from Doramba to Khandadevi (4:30hrs)
Day 08: Trek from Khandadevi to Hiledevi/ Dongme (4hrs)
Day 09: Trek from Hiledevi to Lubughat (4hrs)
Day 10: Trek from Lubughat to Nepal Thowk and drive to Kathmandu via Dhulikhel (6-7hrs)
Day 11: Final Departure for home

DAY 01: ARRIVAL IN AIRPORT and Transfer to your Hotel.

DAY 02: SIGHT-SEEING OF KATHMANDU VALLEY:
Leave for full day sightseeing in Kathmandu valley includes the Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath (An UNESCO world heritage site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. Also visit Monkey Temple the Swyambhunath (2000 years old temple) and visit Patan city of fine arts. Back to hotel and stay overnight.

DAY 03: KTM – DHUNGE – SAILUNG (7 HOURS)
Following road transportation from Kathmandu – Dhunge, start the soft uphill trek from Dhunge to Thulo Sailung enjoying its history and breathtaking Himalaya and Hill panoramas. Photograph the sunset on Mount Gaurishanker (7,134mts) before retiring for the evening and overnight at the community lodge in nearby Kholakharka.

DAY 04: SAILUNG – RAJVEER – KHOLAKHARKHA
Enjoy sunrise and morning views of the Himalaya vista from Thulo Sailung while also visiting Sano Sailung sacred caves, Tiger rocks and Chhortens. Thulo Sailung is regarded by the Tamang people as the abode of the territorial deity, Sailung Phoi Sibda Karpo,(Sailung’s White Male Lord of the Earth). Visit Rajveer Gomba and forests after lunch. Enjoy the evening Sherpa cultural programme before your overnight at Kholakharkha.

DAY 05: KHOLAKHARKA – RAJVEER – SURKEY (4.30 HOURS)
During the descent to Surkey Village through the Sailung forest, you will see a wide diversity of native tree, shrub and bird species down towards surkey. Tourists are welcome at Rajveer monastery and to receive a blessing from the Lamas. Enjoy a relaxing foot bath at the cooling waterfall near Surkey. Your Homestay overnight at Surkey Village is a Newari cultural experience.

DAY 06: SURKEY-TINGHARE-DORAMBA (4 HOURS)
Experience the Thami cultural programme at Tinghare Village before crossing into the Doramba valley via the rhododendron-filled forest around to the rolling terraced fields of Doramba. Enjoy Tamang Homestay culture and the very colourful evening Tamang traditional cultural programme at Doramba.

DAY 7: DORAMBA – GALBA – KHANDADEVI (4.30 HOURS)
Trek towards Augleshwori hill with dramatic views of the Himalaya and the rolling Mahabharat hills below. Enjoy cold drink, snacks and lunch at Galba bazaar before walking through the terraced scenery and pine forest to the sacred Khandadevi temple. Visit the temple and enjoy a spectacular sunset view and sight of the Sun Koshi River 1500 metres below. Relax with traditional Tamang Homestay hospitality this evening.

DAY 08: KHANDADEVI – HILEDEVI/DONGME (4 HOURS)
Following the pre-dawn and sunrise photographic experiences trek towards Hiledevi following a long ridge of thick pine forest, home a wide diversity of bird and other wildlife species. Experience the neat, traditional houses along the trial before reaching the house of the ancient Yolmo people in Dongme. Enjoy stunning sunset views from nearby Sunapati and visit Buddhist Chortens before returning to the monastery at Dongme to spend the night and to enjoy the Yolmo cultural programme.

DAY 09: HILEDEVI – SUNAPATI – LUBUGHAT (4 HOURS)
Enjoy an equally eye-catching sunrise from Sunapati before the final descent to the village of Lubughat on the Sunkoshi River, famous for adventure rafting. Learn traditional river fishing with the Majhi community and relax on the sandy beach beside the river. In the evening you will enjoy a fish BBQ or pig roast (or both if you’re really hungry), while learning about Majhi culture during a proudly-performed song and dance.

DAY 10: LUBUGHAT – NEPALTHOWK – DHULIKHEL – KATHMANDU (6 – 7 HOURS)
Cross the River by Majhi Raft and suspension bridge to Nepalthowk to catch the local bus or micro-bus for the short two-hour drive to Dhulikhel and continue drive back to Kathmandu rest, shower, shopping etc and evening we will take you to reputed Nepali kitchen for a delicious local Nepali cuisine. As you enjoy your meal, you will be entertained with a thrilling cultural dance performed by the local belles of Kathmandu. You will enjoy your last evening in Kathmandu.

DAY 11: DEPARTURE FOR HOME
